SHANE'S WORLD #1

"Party time excellence!" At last! After having to endure several Shane-less DVDs of SHANE'S WORLD (specifically, #s 20 through 24, which were nevertheless highly enjoyable even without the star hostess), Odyssey Video Group finally acquiesces to consumer demand by releasing the very first (and second) edition of this excellent series in the digital format. I've been waiting for this DVD longer than I've been waiting to win the lottery, and while it may not be worth twenty million pre-tax dollars spread over the next fifty years, it's a definite must-see, and for Shane and gonzo fans, a definite must-buy. Shane, of course, is a native of the exciting city of Sacramento, California who made her way down to dull and lifeless Southern California to star in Seymore Butts' successful, Buttman-inspired, gonzo series. Her big, bright smile as well as other oral talents made this large breasted, giggly blonde an instant hit with fans. During the early nineties, Shane made carnal magic with fireman (see SEYMORE & SHANE: PLAYING WITH FIRE), semi-celebrities (SEYMORE & SHANE MEET THE NAUGHTY NYMPHO) as well as budding porn stars (SEYMORE & SHANE DO IRELAND). Learning from one of the masters, Shane eventually went off on her own to make her own gonzo series, and the result, of course is SHANE'S WORLD. What makes her series so special is the breezy, casually spontaneous, party-time approach which is conveyed convincingly in her titles. All the participants, even veterans like Alex Sanders and Kaitlyn Ashley, generally seem to be having a great time. The recreational horseplay and sexual encounters never seem overtly contrived, and the horny fun is always believable and infectious Many other star-driven videos have tried desperately to mimic her style (Misty Rain's WORLD WIDE SEX series is one of them), but don't succeed in giving us the quantity or quality of SHANE'S WORLD. But SHANE'S WORLD isn't just a rambling, stream-of-consciousness action and busy camera work. The video is peppered with a few sequential tangents, including a "how to give a blowjob" segment instructed by Shane and co-conducted by Yvonne (who, like Shane, is also blonde and busty but with a British accent). Mark Davis is the lucky recipient of their demonstrative work, and the result is every bit as hot as one might expect: the wet deep throating, hearty ball-licking, and intertwined tongues leading into incidental deep kissing make this scene worth the price of admission alone. The other performers in this title include Sid Deuce who does a great blowjob on Alex, (but the ending is questionable, especially since there is a specific edit at the point where Shane proclaims, "she swallowed!"), as well as a Caressa Savage/Yvonne outdoor lesbian sequence performed in an ATV. Even more enjoyable is the Kaitlyn/Tom Byron affair which occurs in the motor home, which is intercut with another affair between Sid and Alex. Anyone familiar with the latter SHANE'S WORLD volumes already know that the sex is always performed up to carnal, industry standards and that there's always a natural chemistry among the various pairings. Those who enjoy watching sex in strange places will certainly get a kick out of all the activities happening outdoors and in a motor home as the performers just let it all hang out. Obviously, picking up SHANE'S WORLD is a no-brainer for anyone who likes spunky, energetic dirty blondes with big boobs and an anything goes attitude taking control of her sexual surroundings The bonus materials on this "Special Edition" DVD are above average. Besides the generally well-assembled Photo Gallery which contains some nice promotional stills of Shane, as well as some brief bios of the Cast, you get a modern commentary by Yvonne and Shane, who appear in the lower right hand corner of the picture MST3K-style. (For those who are unaware, MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 was an original program - later made into a movie - where at least three characters talked back to the screen.) They appear in a frontal, medium close-up shot, apparently watching the TV screen as we watch them. As they giggle and make off-handed comments, the original soundtrack is muted to the point of unintelligibility, even when there are long conversational pauses during the picture. Since both girls keep their clothes on during the entire discussion, and because it's difficult to get a good look at both of them while on-screen, I can't say whether this sort of commentary is any more effective than the simple unseen voiceover (which is usually available as an alternate audio track on most DVDs). Still, it's nice to see Shane actively involved in reviewing her own work. However, I would have preferred seeing an updated interview with the two girls in full screen mode than trying to get a look at them through a small, grainy, pseudo-transparent image. SHANE'S WORLD is not without its technical faults, which actually have nothing to do with the DVD mastering process, but rather, with the original video source. Some of the scenes are overly bright, with frequent flaring of images especially during the Peter North/Shane/Yvonne threesome at the end. With darker scenes, the video becomes predictably grainy, but never to the point of being unwatchable. Having seen (repeatedly) the original VHS version of this title, I can personally confirm that the DVD looks better even with the inherent flaws. Finally, I will admit that as much as I enjoyed re-visiting her first solo adventure, SHANE'S WORLD isn't as wonderfully fantastic as I remember. If you've had your senses bombarded "Clockwork Orange"-style by images from CUM SWAPPING SLUTS, ROCCO'S REVERSE GANGBANG, THE MATADOR #15, and other extremely hardcore movies, then Shane's earliest self-titled journey into carnality may seem a little tame by comparison. But who can resist Shane's seductive liveliness, her sense of humor, and of course, her sexual practices no matter what video she's in? To paraphrase a certain commercial jingle, "Welcome to her world of fun!" It's certainly a hot place to visit.
