DEEP INSIDE ASHLYN GERE
Reviewed By Diesel Vividly Yours: Ashlyn Gere 3.00 out of 5.00 - Film: 3 Features: 3 Video: 3 Audio: 3 You know, I hate to be a whiny little bastard when it comes to porno movies, but when one picks up a title like DEEP INSIDE ASHLYN GERE, is it too much to ask for more than just the obvious? Compilations are all well and good and much appreciated when you want to be introduced to the lewd legacy of any given performer...but it would be nice if Vivid followed the example of VCA (which produces their own DEEP INSIDE... series) and offered some sort of supplement to what should be a respectable tribute to a much beloved performer, like an updated interview or a specially filmed bonus scene. (Hell, even Extreme gives us an additional scene on their DVDs as well as a quickie interview!) I think it's the least fans deserve. Instead, Vivid takes the easy way out dips into their video vaults to compile some of Ashlyn's work during her reign as a Vivid Girl. The scenes open rather abruptly, with the participants already at work by the time the picture fades in. Given that there is probably less than two hours of Gere scenes on this disc (it's hard to get an accurate count the way this chapters are designed and time encoded), I would have preferred seeing complete vignettes with a bit of dialogue before the "good stuff" starts. Additionally, we get no information regarding from where these scenes came (although I definitely recognized her Jonathan Morgan and Stephen St. Croix scenes from ANONYMOUS, as well as her Shayla LaVeaux and Alexis DeVell segment from DIRTY LOOKS), nor do we even get the courtesy of screen credits to see who her partners are. At least the five bonus scenes and four trailers (none of which have nothing to do with Ashlyn) provide some indication of their original source or lists their cast members, but the only information we get in DEEP INSIDE ASHLYN GERE is what's partially listed on the box cover. Well, despite all my misgivings I have to admit that nearly all is forgotten once you get to see Ms. Gere doing what she does best. Out of twelve scenes, two are lesbian segments (including a pairing with Nina Hartley), two are boy-girl-girl threesomes, and the rest are straight hetero affairs. Dark-haired, curvy, and large busted, Ashlyn is a perfect sex doll, and she excites every moment she's on screen. (See her Biography on Pornstar Empire for more information.) There's just something about watching her in a tight outfit and high heels which drives mere mortals such as myself absolutely wild, and she sucks and rides cock like her life depended on it. She truly is one of the best performers in adult, causing instant arousal with her aggressive kissing and wild expressions and maintaining our lustful attention from beginning to end. If you want to see just how great she is, then go directly to her interracial scene with Sean Michaels, who works up a hearty sweat trying to keep up with this woman. Then switch over to her slow and steady girl-girl scene with Nina Hartley, who teaches this brunette bombshell a thing or two about lesbian lust. It's also fun to watch her bounce up and down Stephen St. Croix's lap as he fuck her cowgirl style, and to see her deep throat Jonathan Morgan in a bathtub. My longtime favorite segment involves her pairing with Steve Drake in a fuck and suck scene so heated, that in the original cut of this scene from ANONYMOUS, the two actually have to take a break and jerk-off before resuming their work on a couch. (Here, the video is edited without their "break" in the proceedings, which kind of spoils the built-in tension.) This vignette also ends in a superb oral mess all over her pretty face, which is a trademark of any good Gere scene. The production of this DVD is somewhat screwy, and not just in the sexual sense. Instead of a straightforward "chapters" selection, you have to access scenes through "titles" which means that you can't watch more than two scenes in a row without having to revert back to the Main Menu. Strange and terribly inconvenient for those who want to watch her scenes straight through. The video and sound quality is good overall, and neither better nor worse (other than the thankful absence of multiple angle scenes and icons) than the original movies from which these scenes are excerpted. Most of these vignettes come from features shot on film, but those shot on video definitely look cleaner and less grainy. In her threesome with Jon Dough a thin black vertical line can be seen during most of the action at the top of the screen. Whether this is a defect in the original master, or a problem in the DVD mastering is anyone's guess. I can definitely recommend this video, although I was disappointed by how sloppily it was compiled. The "average" score is for the DVD, and definitely not for the featured star, who is always merits an "excellent" rating.
