Newsgroups: rec.arts.movies.erotica Pornostar 1 is one of the older DVD titles out there (released in 1998), but it has held up well over the years and still compares very favorably with most of the DVD drek spewing into the market these days...It was one of the very first DVDs I bought, and I still watch it every now and then, so it has to be better than 90% of the other DVDs I've seen and/or own. In particular, it has an excellent anal scene with a Alexandria Nice (pre-breast mutilation), along with two other solid scenes starring Lexi Erickson and Shelbee Myne (back when she first started and still looked pretty good). Definitely worth a look; probably worth buying at less than $10. The vid has just the thinnest veneer of a plot: Ian Daniels is shooting a porn vid in one day. The running joke is that all the girls show up for their scenes late. Enough on the plot. All the girls are introduced and asked a couple questions--not enough to qualify as an interview, but you at least get to hear their voices (unfortunately, these non-sex segments are shot in black-and-white, but they are so brief that it hardly matters). Otherwise, this is basically a solid all-sex vid with some very decent girls shot fairly well in a typical SoCal mountainside mansion. Scene I: Katie Gold and Jessica Darlin. The two girls stop by to wake Ian up for some early morning fellatio, while he talks on the phone, busy calling everyone to remind them of the video shoot. Both girls are looking good (they were both fairly young and fresh at the time), but the scene is a disappointment. First, it's all shown in sepia; second, Ian's phone calls are annoying; third, there's no lesbian action; fourth, there's no climax shot. Really, this barely qualifies as a scene. Something of a waste of two talented starlets... Scene II: Shawna Edwards and two guys. Shawna was also fairly new in 1997 (the year of production)--certainly nowhere near the worn-out hag she had become by 2000 (when she was "starring" in Extreme Teen 4, snicker)--and she looked great on the boxcover, but her DP scene here is rather flat. Her tatoos--especially the big "Joseph" one--are annoying, and there's one condom in use (the only one in vid, Allah be praised). The facials are okay, but they don't get the timing right. A decent scene, just not one of my favs. Scene III: Alexandra Nice. Alexandra was also new when this was shot--she still has her lovely natural chest here and the breast tatoo is still there (although you have to look for it to see it)...Plus, she's thin, but not emaciated (as she was in earlier vids, and she's certainly not as well-fed as she'd become later). Anyway, this is a fairly standard anal scene, except that it's well-shot and very competantly executed by the actors. They hit all the standard positions and the facial is properly done. No need to make this prolix--it's a very good scene with a very good actress (and Alexandra really lost a lot of her appeal after she got the implants, so this is one of her prime scenes for me). Probably the best of the vid. Scene IV: Alexandra Nice and Alyssa Allure. This is just a dreadful lesbian scene, absolutely ruined by Alyssa. She may be from my hometown, but I still don't cut her any slack--she is facially unattractive and has a stocky/chubby figure...not what I want to see. Neither girl is into the action and the toys are annoying. Alyssa does take a marital aid up her rear, if anyone cares. Chapter Skip! Scene V: Shelbee Myne. This may sound hard to believe, but Shelbee actually looked GOOD in this scene. She had just gotten into porn when this was shot and she still had her girl-next-door good looks--very, very nice. True, she does have the big tatto in the small of her back, but they mainly lens around it. The scene here is a pretty standard hetero number, no reason to go into detail, except to not that the facial is very well shot. Believe it or not, this is actually worth seeing, especially for those interested in what Shelbee looked like before she became one of the most over-used worn-out porn sluts in the history of the genre. Truth be said, this is a good scene. Scene VI: Lexi Erickson. Lexi is one of my all-time porn favs, and she does not disappoint here. As with all the scenes in this vid, the action is standard but comprehensive heterosex. Lexi is not at her absolute best here, but still, she looks very good and does a fine job. The lighting is a little iffy here, and the scene has a distinctly orangy tint, but, well, such is life...Good facial ends a good scene. Ian returns home to find Katie and Jessica asleep in bed. He joins them (no sex). End of vid, run time 1 hour, thirty minutes. DVD picture quality is very good, except where lighting mistakes result in off-tinted video (Lexi and Alexandia Nice both have this problem, but it's minor)...and it would have been nice if they hadn't gone with the black-and-white footage, but whatever. Sound is okay (although the background music is just a tad too overpowering for my tastes). DVD extras include a mildly entertaining but short interview with Ian Daniels and--oddly enough--the soundtrack from the vid...Apparently, they got some local bands to compose the porno muzak; some of the results are even sort of worth listening to. Anyway, Pornostar 1 has long been a staple of my library, and is certainly worth a look. Maybe worth buying if you have a thing for one of the girls (like Lexi) and you can find it for less than $10 (which should be increasingly likely given its age)... review #LXXIII
