THE X-RATED VIDEOTAPE GUIDESThe Guides are an encyclopedic work whose aim is to, as a minimum, list all non-gay porno (XXX/hardcore) videotapes that are or were available in the United States at some point in time. Fetish movies and movies in which a known porno star appears, non- explicit movies (glamour, Playboy-type, etc) plus MPAA X movies are included if the information is available. Regular Hollywood movies and "art" particularly foreign) movies that may present an erotic interest are also included. Movies listings (informational entries) include name, cast, producer/director, year, distributor, a guide to the type of movie (compilation, segment, etc) the likely audience (touchie-feelie, raincoater, etc) and scene indicators (includes anal, incest, etc) plus a synopsis of the movie's story (if any). Movies are chosen for review based on the likelihood of the movie being erotic. The review includes all of the informational entry items plus the author's description of the activities in the movie and his evaluation of it's erotic and other qualities. Volumes I through IV only include reviews. For those familiar with the mainstream guides, an informational entry is like Maltin minus the opinion plus a full cast and a review is like Pauline Kael plus the factual information. Informational entries are derived from manufacturer's publicity (ad, box, slick, catalog, etc) as well as reviews by other persons (contemporaneous magazines, etc). Reviews of course come from personal viewing. All volumes are approximately 600 pages in trade paperback format (6 * 9) but volumes V and VI are in a much smaller typeface and each contain considerably more material than volumes I through IV. Each volume contains a small photo insert of the current stars plus introductory material describing the recent changes in the industry.
THE X-RATED VIDEOTAPE STAR INDEX
The Star Index is an offshoot of the guides and aims to list all
porno stars (persons who have performed sex on videotape) together
with their roles and in some cases, their physical description and
biographical data. It also is about 600 pages in trade paperback
format.
AVAILABILITY
Guides I through VII plus the Star Index are in print and available
from any regular bookstore such as Barnes & Noble and Waldenbooks. In
the event your local bookstore or branch doesn't carry them or is out
of stock they can be ordered by the store in exactly the same manner
as any other book, usually at no extra charge. The retail price of
each book is approximately $20 but due to sales tax etc you should check
directly with the reseller at the time of purchase.
